As I have one child in college and one on the way next year, I necessarily have had to take a different tack to make this race a consideration…er…affordable.

This all started when Bob Kostyla and I decided we wanted to take our two sons on the race. However, as it would not be financially prudent for me to take on all the costs myself, Bob has offered, and I accepted (although somewhat reluctantly as I always picked up all regatta expenses in the past) his proposal to share race related costs with myself and a third crew member (TBD). I will still absorb the costs of race related boat modifications as it is a capital improvement to Corsair as I will be the direct recipient of Corsair's increase in value. Well that assumes it will increases in value…

Another big component which is making the race a possibility is our Senior Statesman - Ron Chevrier - has graciously offered up all of Seaflower's Bermuda race gear...life rafts, flares, med kits...the list goes on. Ron of course will be racing aboard Corsair as well. After all...we need somebody to keep us heading in the right direction ("no...no...make a left here!")

Aside from the obvious monetary pressure relief, it will also allow me to delegate many responsibilities of race preparation and management. A welcome relief given the necessary race prep.

So...given the state of the markets et al...we are hopeful we can pull this off. Another important development is that aside from our two boys racing down, our daughters will meet us down there and are actually looking forward to a great time with their (decidedly un-cool and old) fathers! Given that it has become an expanded family experience, the financial commitment aspect has become an easier pill to swallow.

So...If we get Corsair down there it will truly be a coordinated effort by great friends and a memorable experience for us all. That is after all the point...yea well maybe finishing well would be good too.
