Marion-Bermuda Race

Race to Bermuda!

Rich Wilson to speak in Marion on November 14

Well that was quite a race! Hardest one by far of the seven i've been lucky enough to be part of. I am thankful we had a great boat and strong crew. Once ashore at the RHADC, it took me precisely the length of time necessary to consume a cheeseburger and 2 rum drinks to confirm that i would be ready to go again in 2011.

More later about the next Marion Bermuda race one but I'm very excited to announce that Rich Wilson who was only the second American ever to finish the Vendee Globe Around the World Solo race will be speaking in Marion, MA at the Marion Music Hall sponsored by the Beverly Yacht Club on November 14th. I hope sailors (or anyone interested) in the area will join us as this is very much open to all. Small fee for adults ($15) to cover costs. Students 18 and under are free.

Rich has many amazing stories but here's a teaser. On Thanksgiving Day in 1990 as Rich was trying to break another offshore racing record he capsized and turtled his 60 foot trimaran in 65 foot seas 400 miles west of Cape Horn. Come on November 14 and find out how he escaped and share with all of us your stories too!
